Magic Fever
by Faye Rasno

Artist Statement
"Magic Fever" is inspired by fairytales and storytelling. Growing up, I’ve always envisioned them coming to life. This desire has inspired me to work on this idea for my project. The theme of this project is deeper than you think; it is about letting go of the past. The concept is feeling a sense of familiarity in an unsettling way. I want to demonstrate its beauty but also showcase the unsettling details. Surrealism is ideal for this project as it highlights the story well. My art-making process has always been inspired by my imagination and emotions.

I always start by brainstorming. I feel the most creative when I’m alone and that’s when my ideas pop up in my head. I’d then doodle them either on paper or digitally to visualise them. I think that creating a “moodboard” is also a good way to assemble your ideas. I prefer focusing on my final piece rather than its draft. I like to explore various techniques and styles, so for this project, I'd incorporate different medias to create one collection. I think colors are essential to an artwork as well. To me, a piece is complete when I determine there are enough elements to form my story.
Magic Fever by Faye Rasno
It is the story of a little fairy who loved collecting roses. She has a bunch of them, and you will sure catch her with a bouquet everywhere. One day, horns and a pair of rabbit ears started growing out her head. Her roses started disappearing, and she now has one rose left. The little fairy then remembers that her dress carried magic. However, it needs to be activated. How is she going to find her way out?
You will explore "Magic Fever" through fashion design, photography, drawing, and painting.
Colour Palettes
The colours for "Magic Fever" mostly consist of cool tones to contrast with the overwhelming situation that the little fairy is facing. Greys and blues are usually seen as calming and dull.

1. The Magical Dress
Fashion Sketches
The dress mostly consists of blues which makes it calming. To add on the magical element of the dress, the layer of tulle with sparkle motifs is sewn to it along with long stripes of light fabric that give a flowy effect to the dress.

Fabrics
I chose softer and silkier fabrics for this dress. I envisioned a nightgown in hopes of comfort and familiarity. The dress is meant to be magical after all.
